9 Quotes & Sayings By Gasmaskman

I wrote my first poem when I was in second grade. I remember that it was about my favorite toy, an orange plastic fireman's helmet with a billowy plastic coat and a siren on the side. I wore the helmet on my head when I played with my toy fire engine. It was a pretty chunky helmet, so it was kind of heavy to wear all day long Read more

I just loved that helmet, and I loved being a fireman! I'd been writing poems for years, but that one particular time has always stuck with me. It was an emotional moment for me, and it remained so throughout my life. After writing that poem, I never looked back to why I "hated poetry" because, once again, I found myself at a crossroads. I headed down one path and became a physician – to be successful as a doctor you have to know the technical side of medicine as well as how it feels to be sick or injured.

In this picture perfect world, as a physician you also have to know as much about your patients as possible to help them conquer their illness or injury – but this isn't really how it works. I took another path and became an artist – maybe there is more to art than technical skill and knowledge of anatomy and physiology? Maybe there is more to art than capturing thoughts and feelings? Maybe there is more meaning in art than what we see with our eyes? Maybe there is more meaning in art than what we can find in other people's lives? These were questions that intrigued me for many years, and they continue to intrigue me today - without any answers yet. The art world offered me an important place where I could be free from all of those things that held me back from expressing myself just as much as the medical world did – but this wasn't the life for me either. That's when I started writing songs – leaving behind all of those things that held me back from expressing myself just as much as the medical world did – and once again there were no answers yet – but this time there were no regrets either. I think we all go through times like these – times where we question who we are and what we want out of life – times where we wonder if we're on the right path or not - as long as we're honest about those concerns then those doubts will vanish quickly - without question! There are plenty of reasons why people start writing poems or songs or even books
